Linux: Install MADA Booth

Install Capture

1. Prepare the machineMinimal installation, working network connection, and an account with sudo privileges.
2. Installing via the terminalDownload the installer file and start it; the script fetches all dependencies itself and builds the booth software:

   curl -fsSLO https://app.madabooth.nl/install/mada-booth-linux.run
   sudo bash mada-booth-linux.run --base-url https://app.madabooth.nl

3. One momentThe script installs the dependencies, compiles the booth software and sets up the kiosk, services and udev rules.
4. Restartsudo reboot - the terminal automatically launches the booth in full-screen mode without a mouse pointer.
5. Connect the boothThe screen displays a pairing code. Enter it under Booths in the admin panel, or scan the QR code.

Options

What the installation script configures

• Native MADA Booth kiosk in full screen, without a browser, with the camera allowed straight away
• Dedicated booth user with automatic login and permissions for camera, printer, button and flash (udev rules)
• Autostart via mada-booth.service, which restarts the booth immediately after a crash
• Watchdog (mada-booth-watchdog.service) that restarts the booth if the runtime freezes
• Kiosk lockdown: no desktop shell, no TTY switching, no Ctrl+Alt+Del, sleep and screensaver disabled
• Keeps working offline thanks to local storage; photos are uploaded automatically later

Manage on the device

sudo nano /etc/madabooth/booth.conf        # address and mode
sudo systemctl restart mada-booth          # restart only the booth
journalctl -u mada-booth -f                # follow the live log
sudo bash mada-booth-linux.run             # running it again updates the installation

Shut down and restart

Open the hidden service menu on the photo booth by tapping the top-left corner four times or Ctrl+Alt+S, enter the service code and select Restart or Shut Down under Terminal. Both start a five-second countdown that you can cancel.

Troubleshooting

Issue	Solution
Black screen after restarting	journalctl -u mada-booth -n 50 check it. The video driver is usually missing
Camera not found	Connect the camera before starting up and sudo systemctl restart mada-booth
Photo booth keeps restarting	Check the network or photo booth address in /etc/madabooth/booth.conf
Printer is not printing	Check CUPS at http://localhost:631 and verify the printer name in the admin panel
